Keto Diet: All You Need To Know

The Keto diet has become more of a lifestyle than a diet. Many celebrities have adopted this diet and way of life, but does it work? The ketogenic diet involves eating as few carbs as possible. Once the ketosis process starts, your body will burn down the fat stores and lose weight. However, if you consume carbohydrates, your body will burn these down first.

It takes about 3-4 days for your body to reach the ketosis stage; however, everybody is different, and the process may differ from person to person. Try eating less than 20-50g of carbs per day if you want to burn your fat stores

What to eat

The Keto diet is rich in protein and fats. Try including these in your daily diet:

  • meat ( including processed meat)
  • eggs
  • Sausages
  • cheese
  • fish
  • nuts
  • butter
  • oils
  • seeds
  • fibrous vegetables

Keep in mind that it is quite challenging to follow the Keto diet. Also, it may not work for everyone. If you have problems with your kidneys, I recommend you try a different diet. Because it is so restrictive, some people may feel nauseous and even vomit. If you start feeling any side effects, talk to your doctor or simply look for a different diet.

Pros and cons

The keto diet reduces seizures in children. It may also minimize the risk of getting Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders. However, there are no studies to support this theory at the moment. This lifestyle is beneficial for people suffering from metabolic syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and other health problems.

The cons of following this diet are that you will put back the weight you lost once you stop. Losing a huge amount of weight in a short time only to gain it back slowly puts our body under a lot of stress. It is a drastic diet with a few benefits, but it is up to you to balance the pros and cons. You won’t lose weight only but muscle mass as well.
