Johnson & Johnson, the American multinational corporation, has been a tycoon of the pharmaceutical industry since its foundation days back in 18886. However, the company has had some previous product recalls, and this time, the same thing happens with the Neutrogena Sunscreen.
Several products are recalled from the stores
On Wednesday, Johnson & Johnson announced that it had started the process of recalling five sunscreen products.
The reason is that after analyzing samples, it was discovered that the products contain benzene. Although a low level of benzene was found, this chemical is hazardous as it can cause cancer if a person is exposed repeatedly to it.
The company also notified the FDA and it does not believe that any health issues are to be suffered by those who have already used the products.
The recall is voluntary, and it involves aerosol sunscreen
The statement also mentioned that benzene is also found in our environment and that it is easily absorbed by inhalation, orally or through the skin.
The measure was just a precaution one as the levels found in the samples were very low, and the company is now investigating how it got into the products.
The company also asks people to report adverse reactions, if any, on the MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program and call the Johnsons & Johnson Consumer Care Center for a refund.
How do we recognize the mentioned products?
Those who are not sure which are the five products being recalled can enter Neutrogena’s and Aveeno’s websites to find pictures.
The five products are mentioned in the statement are NEUTROGENA® Beach Defense® aerosol sunscreen, NEUTROGENA® Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen, NEUTROGENA® Invisible Daily™ defense aerosol sunscreen, NEUTROGENA® Ultra Sheer® aerosol sunscreen, and AVEENO® Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen.
However, the company reinforced the need for people to use sunscreen in order to avoid skin cancer.
