Prune Juice Helps with Constipation and General Health

Prune juice has many health benefits, such as preventing heart conditions, stimulating brain functions, improving the bone structure and blood circulation. However, what it is really known for is helping with constipation.

Some people use it for losing weight, others for lowering blood pressure. Nevertheless, it is an all-in-one product, full of nutritious ingredients, such as vitamins and minerals. The juice does not contain any fatty acids or cholesterol, making it a great source of energy.

Prune Juice Helps with Constipation

What amount of prune juice intake does the trick? It depends on your age, health, and how severe constipation is. According to researches, half a cup of prune juice in the morning and another half in the evening should work for an adult. Regular prunes also help with bowel movements. However, children should consume less prune juice, half a cup max per day.

Constipation Reliever

What makes the juice so effective is its sorbitol ingredient. Sorbitol is a carbohydrate, also known as a sugar alcohol, which stimulates the digestive system. It basically pulls more water in the gut improving its functions. In combination with fiber, it is even more effective due to its laxative effects.

However, more studies need to be conducted in order to prove the juice prevents constipation. What we do know for now is that it improves stool frequency and it works as a laxative for people having gastrointestinal symptoms. Let’s take a quick look at the other benefits of dried plumps juice.

Other Prune Juice Benefits

Because this juice is a great source of iron, it is often recommended for people suffering from anemia. Due to its richness of antioxidants, potassium, and vitamin K, it improves heart health.

A high cholesterol level is detrimental to our health; however, a decent amount of juice could keep the levels in check. Prune juice also keeps the enzyme balance in our liver, healing the liver from diseases such as hepatitis.

How to Make the Juice

Leave the prunes in water for about 20 minutes. Next, shove them in the blender and add a little bit of water to make it runnier. Add lemon juice for a nice touch. Depending on your preferences, you can leave the pulp for extra fiber or simply remove it.
