Skincare Tips To Prevent Dry Skin This Winter

The colder months can be hard on skin. Between the harsh, drying winds and the extra time spent indoors where pollution and germs are more concentrated, it’s no wonder that winter is a common time for breakouts. There are steps you can take to prevent and treat winter breakouts. Here are a few tips to keep your skin healthy in the cold weather:

1. Moisturize!

Keep your skin supple during the winter by applying a rich, heavy moisturizer right after you get out of the shower. This will help lock in moisture before it evaporates. For added protection, consider applying an oil-free moisturizer under your makeup to keep your skin from drying out while you’re outside or running errands. And remember to reapply lotion as needed throughout the day — especially after you wash your hands or cleanse your face.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating can be an essential part of any skincare routine, but it’s especially important during the winter months when you may find yourself using heavier moisturizing products or using more makeup than you normally would. Use a gentle cleanser to cleanse your face every morning and evening before applying a moisturizer to remove dead skin cells and keep your pores clean of dirt and oil buildup.

3. Cleanse gently

Don’t scrub your face too hard when you’re washing it with soap or cleanser because this can irritate dry skin even more. A soft washcloth or exfoliating cloth is gentler than your hands alone, so consider using one of these instead of a loofah which tends to be rougher on the surface of your skin.

4. Get a humidifier

A humidifier is one of the best ways to keep your entire home feeling warm and cozy during the cold winter months. Humidifiers release moisture into the air which will help prevent your skin from drying out.
