Your skin care routine needs to be upgraded every season. Fall brings a drop in humidity and cooler weather, which makes for stale air, dry, and even drier skin, and let’s face it, who wants that?
That said, this season is a perfect time to reappraise your go-to skin care routine, just like you do with your wardrobe.

We’ve compiled a cool list of everything you need to know, including which skincare products might suit your skin best.
Choose Gentle Cleansers
Dr. Jordana Hersh, a board-certified dermatologist, explains what happens to our skin in the fall. She recommends taking great care of our skin to avoid breakouts, redness, flakiness, or dullness.
“The skin recognizes climate changes and reacts to them to regulate its needs; […] use products that maintain moisture and protect the skin’s lipid barrier to decrease irritations,” Dr. Hersh added.
Starting with a gentle cleanser is a great choice because it is part of the first step of a correct skin care routine. The cream-based cleansers or those with moisturizers can help you fight off dryness, especially if it contains glycolic or salicylic acids.
Don’t Forget About SPF
Even if you’re now spending less time in the sun, sunscreen still needs to be part of your skin care routine.
Unfortunately, sun damage can happen any time, any day, and anywhere. Specialists recommend adding mineral sunscreens with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to block UVB and UVA rays efficiently.
The Power of Retinol
Retinol is a hero ingredient, an anti-aging gold standard that does wonders to your skin. It can help you deal with brown spots, sun-induced discoloration, and exfoliation.
TIP: use retinol at night and top it off with a nice peptide-rich moisturizer.
Body Lotion is Essential
In the fall, we need to use body lotion a lot because the air is drier, and the natural water that your skin holds can be lost.
A great way to avoid dry skin and any irritations: choose some products without drying and irritating ingredients, like fragrances. Also, invest in a good humidifier and keep the air in your house as moist as possible!
