The Tokyo Olympics 2020 started last Friday, after one year delay due to the ongoing Covid -19 pandemic. It is no secret that Tokyo Olympics organizers have struggled to keep the SARS-CoV-2 virus away from the Olympic village, and all athletes had to quarantine upon arrival. Another bad news is that there are no spectators and fans have to stay at home and watch the broadcasts. Since it started, Japan has won nine gold medals, and it looks like many more are to come.
Japanese athletes seem very motivated
It is a pride for every country to host the Olympic Games, and it seems that Japanese athletes want to keep the medals at home. Japan has won six gold medals in skateboarding (Y. Horigome, M. Nishiya), judo (N. Takato, H.Abe, U. Abe) and swimming (Y. Ohashi). F. Tonaki also won the silver medal in judo 48 kg category, and the men’s archery team got the bronze medal. F. Nakayama also got bronze at skateboarding. Japan also has many athletes qualified in the semi-finals and finals.
Momiji Nishiya became the youngest Japanese Olympic champion at only 13 years old. She finished with a 15.26 score, and Nakayama took the bronze with a 14.49 score.
U.S.A is still in the first place
It seems that U.S athletes are also highly motivated, and they are seconded by Chinese athletes. The U.S has 14 medals, and the Olympic Games will finish on 8 August, meaning there are plenty more chances.
Naomi Osaka had a starring role in the Opening Ceremony
The Japanese tennis player starred in the Opening Ceremony, and the eyes of the world were on her, as she has been ranked Nr.1 WTA. She also won her first match at the Tokyo Olympics, and odds are in her favour.
