How Tall Do Girls Grow According To Experts

It is a well-known fact that girls grow at a quicker pace. And when puberty comes knocking, the growth increases again. Girls stop growing when they reach adult height – that’s by 14 or 15 years old. Or, it can happen a few years after the menstruation begins.

Puberty

For most girls, puberty happens between 8 and 13 years old. In the two years before menstruation starts, girls have a growth spurt. This growth spurt happens between 10 and 14 years old. They grow about 2 inches in the years before getting the first period.

The very first sign of puberty is breast development. Breasts might start developing about two years before a girl gets her period. But there are also exceptions – girls may notice their breasts growing even three to four years after menstruation begins.

Girls vs Boys

Puberty starts later for boys, between 10 and 13 years old. They experience spurts between 12 and 15 years old. Most boys stop gaining height at about 16 years old. Muscles will continue to develop.

What’s the medium height for girls?

According to CDC, the average height for women at 20 years old is 63.7 inches. At about eight years old, half of the American girls are under 127.5 cm.

These growth patterns run in the family. When taking a look at the child, doctors – pediatricians, especially – ask parents about their own height and growth patterns.

You can predict how tall your girl can be by using the mid-parental method. You need to add the height of the mother and the father in inches and divide it by two. Then, subtract 2 1/2 inches from that number.
