Delta variant is spreading fast throughout the US. Although Americans might need to wear a mask again, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top federal infectious disease expert, says the lockdown is not an option.
“I don’t think we’re going to see lockdowns. I think we have enough of the percentage of people in the country — not enough to crush the outbreak — but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter,” he said on Sunday’s ABC This Week.
Even if another lockdown is off the table, the chief medical adviser to President Biden believes the situation will worsen as people don’t want to take the vaccines. The Delta variant of COVID-19 is affecting numerous unvaccinated people all over the US. However, the solution is simple and available to everyone.
“We’re looking, not, I believe, to lockdown, but we’re looking to some pain and suffering in the future because we’re seeing the cases go up, which is the reason why we keep saying over and over again, the solution to this is get vaccinated and this would not be happening,” Fauci said.
Vaccination is the key to stop the spread of the Delta variant and keep the virus under control. Dr Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, also encourages people to get vaccinated. The way out of this pandemic is getting the vaccines.
“If you haven’t yet gotten vaccinated, the evidence is overwhelming. Let’s get off the fence, move forward and be part of the winning team that gets this Delta out of here.”
The current situation is quite dreadful. Kids are back to school wearing masks, regardless if they are vaccinated or not. Fauci says parents and children are tired to be in this situation where they have to wear masks to protect vulnerable, unvaccinated people. The same goes for all Americans as the new CDC guidelines are to wear masks in indoor and public spaces to reduce the transmission to vulnerable people.
