Xiaomi has overpassed Apple, becoming the second-wide vendor in the world. The Chinese company has delivered more smartphones around the world than Apple in Q2 2021. According to the latest report, Xiaomi is 3% ahead of Apple in the global market share. Samsung still leads with 19%, followed by Xiaomi’s 17% and Apple’s 14%.

What is even more impressive is the short period the Chinese company has achieved these results. And its only Q2 2021! We have seen an increase in shipments every year; however, Xiaomi has delivered 83% more smartphones compared to Q2 2020. They overpassed even the largest smartphone vendor in the Q2. Samsung has a 15% increase in smartphone shipments from last year and Apple 1%.
“Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly. It is still largely skewed toward the mass market, however, and compared with Samsung and Apple, its average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively. So a major priority for Xiaomi this year is to grow sales of its high-end devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra. But it will be a tough battle, with Oppo and Vivo sharing the same objective, and both willing to spend big on above-the-line marketing to build their brands in a way that Xiaomi is not. All vendors are fighting hard to secure component supply amid global shortages, but Xiaomi already has its sights set on the next prize: displacing Samsung to become the world’s largest vendor,” says Canalys research manager, Ben Stanton.
According to the leading global technology market analyst, the worldwide smartphone shipments have increased by 12% in Q1 2021. However, the reason is quite simple: Huawei. The Chinese company overtook Apple in 2019. However, the US penalized the growing company and banned trading. Therefore, Huawei wasn’t able to expend worldwide as much as before and Xiaomi seems to be the major beneficiary.
Altough Xiaomi’s achievement is primarily due to Huawei going down, the second-largest smartphone vendor in the world future looks very promising. Vivo and Oppo are just behind Apple, completing the top five leading smartphone vendors in the world.
