China’s Zhurong rover made sure everyone is going to discover how it’s like touching the Martian ground!
After China released fantastic photos of Zhurong on Mars a few weeks ago, now we can hear it, as well, thanks to the newly published audio.
Curious to hear how Zhurong sounds like on Mars?
Here is what you need to know.
Listen to Zhurong’s Incredible Touchdown on Mars
CNSA (China National Space Administration) has released audio of what it claims to be Zhurong arriving on our planetary neighbor and getting settled.
Check out the incredible audio:
No pew, pew, pew sounds, nothing supernatural, just a thrilling sound you probably won’t forget that easily.
Zhurong’s Mars Mission So Far
China’s solar-powered rover first arrived on Mars back in May. As part of the daring Tianwen-1 mission that reached the Martian orbit in February, Zhurong has already proved it has what it takes to survive on Mars.
After it successfully descended from the Tianwen-1 orbiter, the rover started its mission on Utopia Planitia, a smooth plain, which is only 1,000 miles away from NASA’s Perseverance (at the Jezero Crater). So, the chances to see the two rovers hanging out together are pretty much high.
And that’s not all.
Utopia Planitia is also where NASA’s Viking 2 lander docked back in 1976.
“With the [data] files we released this time, including those sounds recorded when our Mars rover left the lander, we are able to conduct in-depth analysis to the environment and condition of Mars, for example, the density of the atmosphere on the Mars,” explained Liu Jizhong, the deputy commander of China’s first Mars exploration program.
Zhurong is expected to last about 90 Martian days investigating our planetary neighbor. The rover carries high-resolution cameras, a multi-spectral camera, a magnetic field detector, a subsurface radar, a weather monitor, and a surface composition detector.
