Things You Need to Do To Protect Yourself From Springtime Diseases

Spring is a time of renewal, but it also comes with some dangers that can cause illness. Spring can bring a host of diseases and ailments that you don’t want to deal with. Take the necessary precautions to avoid getting sick this spring.

  • Get Plenty of Sleep

Your body needs adequate rest to be able to fight off sickness. Adults should aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you have trouble sleeping, try going to bed earlier or waking up later so you can get more sleep. You may also want to avoid drinking large amounts of caffeine or alcohol in the evening because these substances may keep you from falling asleep.

  • Wash Your Hands

You should always wash your hands after using the bathroom and before handling food. However, you should also wash your hands regularly throughout the day because germs can spread easily from surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops to your hands and then into your body.

  • Avoiding Illness Due to Allergies

Allergy season can hit hard in the spring, which is why it’s important to take steps to protect yourself from allergies. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, talk to your doctor about allergy medication. You should also keep windows closed, invest in an air purifier and clean your house regularly. Avoid going outside when pollen counts are high. If you do go outside, wash your face and hands when you come inside and change clothes so that the pollen doesn’t spread through your home.

  • Watch out for Lyme disease.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection carried by deer ticks. The tick must be on your body for at least 24 hours before it can transmit the disease to you through its bite. If you notice any redness or swelling around a tick bite, seek medical help immediately.
