Around this time of year, a lot of families are busy getting ready for the holidays. They’re buying gifts, decorating the house and making plans for dinners with various relatives. Holidays can be a lot of fun for kids, but it’s important to keep safety in mind when you’re planning everything.
The following tips can help you make sure your kids stay safe during the holidays:
- Keep candles and other decorations away from kids. It’s all too easy for young children to knock over a lit candle or start playing with decorations before they know it’s dangerous to do so. There are plenty of ways you can add some holiday cheer without taking risks.
- Make sure your holiday lights are secure. Holiday lights are great to have around the house, but they need to be up high enough that kids won’t be able to reach them. If you’re using strings of lights on a tree, make sure there aren’t any low-hanging branches nearby that might be tempting to climb on.
- When your child receives a toy, read the labels first. Make sure that you are familiar with the age and weight requirements stated on the label. Also, check if there are other warnings with regard to handling and usage, such as warning labels or instructions on how to use the toy.
- Keep an eye on your children. This tip might seem obvious, but it’s easier said than done. Throughout the holiday season, there are going to be a lot of distractions for parents, especially when you consider how busy most malls get during this time. Therefore, it is important to keep your eyes peeled at all times. Make sure that you are paying attention to what your kids are doing. Don’t let them wander off from your side, especially if they are small.
