The holiday season is upon us, and everyone is scrambling to figure out what to do, where to eat, and who to see. In the midst of all the excitement, it’s hard to remember what’s important: saving money.
As hard as it is, saving money during the holiday season is a must. Here are a few tips to help you save money this holiday.
1. Set your limits
Before you even think about going out for dinner or other plans, you need to know what your limit is. Maybe you’re saving up for a big screen television or a new iPhone. Maybe you’re planning to go on a vacation this summer. Whatever it is, you need to know how much you can save.
2. Stick to your budget
If you’re going out for dinner, set a budget. Include all the bills that come with it: food, drinks, tip, etc. Don’t just give it all to the waiter, but make sure to have enough.
3. Don’t spend more than you’ve saved
Don’t just save for the holidays; save throughout the year. Don’t spend what you’ve saved. By not spending, you deprive yourself of something you want, but you also deprive yourself of something you need.
4. Remember that you shouldn’t spend more than you can afford
If you have to save for a year to afford that expensive item, then don’t buy it. If you’ve only saved for a month, go ahead and buy it, but don’t spend more than you can afford.
5. Remember, you can get more for less
If you’ve been wanting to go on that expensive vacation, but don’t have the funds, then ask your family and friends for help. Whether it’s money, or some help moving, or a friend doing your laundry, just ask.Whether you want to prepare a big Thanksgiving dinner or buy some expensive Christmas gifts, you can always find alternatives that match your budget.
