Bike Ride 2008
Thursday May 01 2008

FTW 2008 Pedal For Peace in the Middle East took place on 3rd to 14th May 2008.  Nearly 400 women representing more than 30 nationalities arrived in Beirut on 2nd May for the fourth 'Follow the Women' bike ride, which winds through Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine.

The 2008 bike ride started in Beirut with the formal opening ceremony at the UNESCO Palace. The women visited the Sabra and Shatilla Refugee Camps before riding from Mount Lebanon to Saidon (Saida) and on to Tyre (Sour).

They then crossed the Lebanese/Syrian border and cycled in Damascus and Qunaitra in the Golan Heights.  The women then journeyed to Jordan and took part in a Peace Advocacy cycle ride in Amman and in the evening met Jordanian women and Iraqi and Palestinian refugees at the Cultural Palace. The following day those who were still able to sit on a saddle rode along the Dead Sea before attending an International Evening and camping there!

The 'Follow the Women' group will crossed the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge into the Palestine where they will rode in Jericho, Ramallah, Nablus and Jenin, before spending their last night in the homes of the Palestinian people in Romaneh.
